Visit the Bangpa Summer Palace then proceed to Wat Pai Lom's pier to embark on the River King Cruise. Relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the river. See a panorama of typical Thai life as you pass by the Pathumthani and Nonthaburi Provinces, on the way to the contrasting metropolitan scenes in Bangkok. Enjoy the fascinating sights of the beautiful Grand Palace and the graceful Temple of Dawn along the riverbank. Meals: B | | Day 4 | Luang Prabang | Bangkok - Luang Prabang: Location: Laos Take a domestic flight to Luang Prabang (Laos). The tranquility and charm of this town with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Southeast Asia. After a short rest, visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrines of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. Climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the Mekong River and the city. Explore the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by the hilltribe and local people surrounding Luang Prabang. Meals: B | | Day 5 | Luang Prabang | Luang Prabang: Take a tour of the city's oldest temples, Wat Sene and Wat Xiengthong. Embark on a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, and see a breathtaking view of the tranquil countryside. Explore the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves filled with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by devoted pilgrims from different time periods. Stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where the local rice wine is produced. Take a short drive to the handicraft village of Ban Phanom and see local crafts. Visit the Central Market where you can find antique items, handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Enjoy some free time to venture into town and stroll around the shopping areas. Transfer to the airport for domestic flight back to Thailand. Arrive in Chiang Mai and transfer to your hotel. Free at leisure for the rest of the day. Appreciate the town of Chiang Mai as you pass by old city walls, gates, markets, local landmarks, and the main street. Ascend 3,500 feet above sea-level to Mt. Suthep for a visit to Wat Phrathad Doi Suthep, Thailand's most sacred temple. Get ready to take on a challenging flight of 300 steps flanked by statues of mythological snake-creatures, the Nagas, on your way to visit the Holy Relic of Lord Buddha. A rewarding panoramic view of the city can be seen once the top is reached. Visit ancient temples Wat Jed Yod and Wat Suan Dok, where the ashes of Chiang Mai's royal family are placed. Observe the lifestyles of this very colorful ethnic group before taking on an hour of bamboo rafting down the beautiful Mae Ping River. Meals: L | | Day 9 | Chiang Rai | Chiang Mai - Chiang Rai: Learn how Chiang Mai craftsmen produce their crafts by hand from start to finish. Transfer to Chiang Rai with a quick stop in Mae Kajan Hot Springs and Rongkhoon Temple. Meals: B,L | | Day 10 | Chiang Rai | Chiang Rai: Visit the Thai-Myanmar (Burma) trading border, Mae Sai. This is a famous tourist stop and a good chance to get a glimpse of Thailand's neighboring country, Myanmar. Cross the Sai River into Tha Chilek, the Myanmar bordertown, and witness local Burmese lifestyles in the nearby village. Take a rickshaw ride around town to explore its streets and temples. Visit the local market for a chance to shop for souvenirs from China, Myanmar, and Laos. Proceed to the famous Golden Triangle, the area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos meet. Take a long-tail boat ride on the splendid Mekong River to watch it join with the Ruak River, thus forming the "Triangle." Meals: L | | Day 11 | Chiang Rai | Chiang Rai: Visit Doi Tung, an attractive mountain-top destination of forests and natural scenery restored by the Doi Tung Development Project, initiated by none other than the King's Mother herself. On the way, stop by the Lahu and Akha Hill-tribe Villages to meet the friendly locals. Proceed to the beautiful Mae Fah Luang Garden where you'll find colorful flowers and decorative plants. Drive up to Wat Phrathad Doi Tung, the most sacred hilltop shrine in Chiang Rai and nearby provinces. Built in A.D. 911, the shrine is believed to contain the left collarbone of Lord Buddha. Transfer to the airport for your afternoon departure back to Bangkok. After arrival, transfer to your hotel and free at leisure for the rest of the night. Visit Wat Trimitr to see the grandeur of the world's largest Golden Buddha statue. Unrivalled in beauty, this Buddha image is constructed of pure gold and weighs approximately 5 tons!
